MEET DOROTHY
One day, over 25 years ago, Dorothy J. Garnett decided to serve on the Women’s Ministry at the church in which she was attending. As she began to serve, her passion was instantly ignited to help and encourage those that were hurting. She branched out into the community and became a volunteer counselor at Ozone House in Ann Arbor, MI. The more she helped and counseled, the greater her passion became. Still wanting more, Dorothy decided to increase her skills by furthering her education. She returned to school, Eastern Michigan University, where she graduated with a Masters of Arts in Guidance and Counseling.
Following graduation and counseling for many years, Dorothy received licensure as a Limited License Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. She continued to counsel at other agencies, determined to make a difference to those in which her life was meant to impact. While working faithfully for others, Dorothy envisioned owning her own private counseling agency. After many years of this vision lying dormant within her, on June 24, 2013, she gave life to her vision and opened Turning Lives Around, LLC. This name is appropriate and fits well with her desire to help others turn their lives around. Her mission is to motivate, encourage, and instill in others that no matter what your situation or circumstances are, you are strong enough to handle it and you will make it – if you don’t quit.
Dorothy enjoys volunteering in the community, spending time with family and helping others. In her free time, she enjoys watching classic TV shows such as Matlock, Perry Mason, and Columbo. She also likes current day crime shows such as NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Flashpoint, and CSI Miami.
